“Engineering is the art of directing the great sources of power in nature for the use and convenience of man.”
– Thomas Tredgold
Through my experiences in PCIS (Prosper Career Independent Studies), I am determined to improve my communication skills with true professionals in the field of civil and mechanical engineering and form genuine relationships that I can build off of for a lifetime. I also am dedicated to building on my professional, networking, and work skills, to carve out the perfect place in the industry for myself. I commit to investing my valuable time and energy into relationships that improve me. I hope to have the opportunity to truly make a change in the quality of people’s lives, whether that be through developing safer or more sustainable structures to propel us into the future of humanity.

My career interests are the civil and mechanical disciplines of engineering. After concluding my extensive research as part of PCIS, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of what I am getting myself into through entering the engineering career field and if I need to carefully consider a separate path. When it comes to career outlook, the civil engineering sector has witnessed an 8.4% increase over the past decade, which is among the very highest of the engineering field. Regardless, STEM fields will always be needed in our society, as they are what civilization is built upon. When it comes to education, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering would be highly recommended to have a good standing for the best jobs in the field. I plan to start making connections and networking through the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Some other qualities I will need to further develop or hold up to be successful in the field of civil engineering include my ability to think critically and grasp the broader implications of projects.
